The Moonee Valley Football Club is pleased to advise of the following coaching announcements for season 2022.
Senior Men’s Coach Shanon Carroll will return for his fifth year at the helm signing on for another season.
Carroll has successfully led the men’s program since joining The Valley in 2018, coaching the side to a semi-final in 2018, a Grand Final appearance in 2019 and more recently a 2021 Premiership after finishing on top of the ladder.
Senior Women’s Coach Paul Edwards will also return in 2022 however will take on the newly created role of Head of Women’s Football.
Paul will continue to work closely with the women’s program, both on and off the field, and will provide support to Brad Sammut as he transitions from Assistant Coach to the Senior Coach of the Club’s Div 1 women’s side in 2022. Sammut’s elevation is a testament to his integral role in the development of the women’s program.
The Club’s women’s program has gone from strength to strength since its inception in 2019 with the Div 1 and Div 2 sides both finishing on top of their respective competitions and as such were both awarded the 2021 Premiership.
Dean Rioli, who coached the Div 2 Women’s side this season, will also return in 2022 but in another newly created role for the Valley.
Rioli will support the growth of our coaches and players as people and participants of the game by leading the development of the Club’s football curriculum.
Rioli’s focus will be on the upskilling of our coaches by sharing advice, insights and providing one on one guidance thanks to his vast experience at AFL level.
Men’s Reserves Coach Archie Kottaridis will return for another season after a successful year where his side finished on top and were declared Premiers.
Men’s Thirds Coach David Tripepi will also resume his role in 2022 having had a great season with the newly established thirds team who finished the season in second place.
MVFC President Jason Hellwig said, “The Club is pleased to confirm Shanon Carroll, Paul Edwards, Dean Rioli, Brad Sammut, Archie Kottaridis and David Tripepi will all continue with Moonee Valley in 2022.
“While this season ended sooner than we would have liked, we are still thrilled to have been awarded four Senior Premierships after plenty of hard work and effort from our players, coaches and volunteers.
“Season 2022 will be an exciting time for the Club as our Men’s side returns to Division 1 for the first time in a decade and we can’t wait for the new challenge that will bring.
“As female participation at our Club continues to grow, we are also keen to actively support women from a coaching viewpoint so this will be a major focus over the new few years.
“I would like to congratulate all four individuals on their reappointments and thank them for their continued support of this football club.
“I look forward to catching up with everyone once we are able to so we can properly celebrate a very successful year for Moonee Valley.”
The Club is now seeking a coach for its Div 2 Women’s side and will advertise shortly.
