The Moonee Valley Football Club is pleased to advise of the following coaching announcements for the 2023 season.
Ian Denny will again lead the charge as Coach of the Senior Men’s program and will be ably assisted for another year by Robert Lamberti. We are also pleased to confirm that Men’s Reserves Coach Tom Wilson has also signed on for another season.
Denny has done a terrific job guiding the playing group as they made the move up to Division 1 of the EDFL whilst also providing a number of our U18 players with their debut senior opportunities.
The playing group improved week in week out rounding out the season with four wins and a number of close losses matching it with the stronger teams of the competition on a regular basis.
With several senior players already recommitting, the 2023 season will be sure to bring great improvement as the group continues to develop.
Senior Coach of our Premier Women’s team Bradley Sammut has advised the Club that he will be stepping down as head of the program.
Brad welcomed his first child Amelia mid-way through the season and will be focusing on spending additional time with his family next year.
Brad has been involved with the women’s program at Moonee Valley since its inception in 2019 and the Club would like to extend our utmost thanks for his commitment, passion and determination.
He has played a vital role in ensuring the Club has been able to field two women’s sides for the last two years which is a fantastic achievement with both sides also finishing top of the ladder in 2021 and being awarded the Premiership.
Brad will still be involved with the program, and we look forward to his continued input and guidance next season.
The Club is pleased to advise that Dean Rioli has accepted the position of Senior Women’s Coach for the next two years.
Dean coached our Division 2 women’s side in 2021 before moving back to the Northern Territory at the end of last year after accepting the position as Club President of the Tiwi Bombers.
Rioli will be returning to Melbourne permanently in the coming months and we are thrilled to have him back on board to lead our women’s program in 2023.
Division 1 Women’s Coach Paul Edwards has also committed to being involved with the program for another season however this may be in a reduced capacity depending on family commitments.
Paul has given his all to the women’s program as the inaugural coach in 2019 and has been involved ever since.
His experience and footy knowledge have been such great assets and we look forward to Eddo continuing to mentor our women’s players.
